RN Desk: Bangladesh interim government’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced a couple of days ago that the upcoming elections would be held by April 2026. But Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders have declined this electoral roadmap. BNP strongly condemned Dr. Muhammad Yunus for setting out election timeframe deferring it to next year’s April.
BNP leaders have been demanding vociferously for last several months to get elections organized by December 2025. BNP leaders had a few meetings with Dr. Muhammad Yunus over the election issue and BNP kept on pressing the interim government for holding elections by the end of this year.

BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said “We are highly disappointed with the Chief Adviser’s announcement on elections. There is no logical ground to push the elections further away to April 2026. The interim government has failed to figure out the pulse and sentiment of the country’s people.”
Salahuddin Ahmed slammed Dr. Muhammad Yunus for having a biased leaning towards a particular political quarter.
It is being speculated that the contradiction which has emerged between BNP and the interim government over elections roadmap has all the likelihood to trigger restless political circumstances in Bangladesh.
However, Jamaat and another few likeminded political parties have welcomed the Chief Adviser’s speech. The student fronts for the most part are happy that at least a dateline for elections has been unveiled.
