RN Deak: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Agriculture, and Food, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said that although other political parties in the country have at times taken positions contrary to the expectations and sentiments of the people, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has always moved forward by upholding public sentiment. He stated that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, they want to move Bangladesh forward with the trust and support of the people.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inaugaration of a five-day orientation course for the newly recruited 44th BCS (Livestock) cadre officers, held on Sunday evening (February 22) at the BCS Livestock Academy premises in Savar.

The State Minister said that BNP has never stood against the feelings and aspirations of the people. From the declaration of independence in 1971 to various democratic and rights-based movements in the country, the party has played a significant role.

He added that BNP’s role was also visible in movements against inequality and for people’s rights, including the Sipahi–Janata Revolution of November 7, 1975. In the 1990 mass uprising, democracy was restored under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia. Most recently, BNP led the 2024 mass movement as well.

The State Minister further said that due to improper management of industrial waste, the country’s rivers are becoming polluted, disrupting environmental balance. In this context, developing agriculture-based and environmentally friendly industries would not only strengthen the economy but also protect environmental balance. He emphasized that the country will become developed only if the agriculture-based economy is strengthened.

Calling upon the newly appointed cadre officers to serve as servants of the state, he said, “You are officers of the state—not of any individual or party. Protecting the interests of the state is your primary responsibility.” He instructed them to carry out their duties at the upazila and field levels with honesty, dedication, and professionalism.

He further said that to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, everyone must demonstrate responsibility and efficiency from their respective positions. He called for collective efforts to build a livable, developed, and inequality-free country for future generations.

The event was chaired by the Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian. Special guest remarks were delivered by Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Senior officials of the ministry and department, along with the trainees, were also present at the event.
