The victim claims that he was beaten because he refused to transfer property to his wife and children, excluding his eldest son. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in the Gopalpur area of Ward No. 3 of Laksam Municipality. The father has since filed a formal complaint with the police.

The victim, 60-year-old Abdul Jalil, is the son of the late Haji Waliullah of Gopalpur. The accused are his sons Noman (20) and Rocky (16), daughters Nazmin (26) and Nupur (13), and his wife Rina Akter (45).

A video of the brutal assault has gone viral on social media. In the one-minute, 45-second clip, one of Jalil’s sons is seen dragging him across the yard, forcefully pushing him by the shoulders and neck, even tearing his shirt. Meanwhile, another son is seen searching for a rope. The two sons then tie their father’s hands and feet, with their sister joining in the process. After binding him, they pour hot water onto his face. In the video, Jalil can be heard screaming in agony, shouting: “Oh Allah,” “Oh mother,” “Brother, help,” “Jasim’s mother, save me,” and “Someone please help me, they’re killing me.”

Locals report that Abdul Jalil owns a house and 120 decimals (approximately 1.2 acres) of land. He has three sons and two daughters. His eldest son lives abroad. The children have reportedly been pressuring him to transfer ownership of the property to them and frequently abuse him when he refuses. They also allegedly fail to provide him with food and care. Several local arbitration meetings have been held over the matter.

Neighbors stated that the incident occurred following a heated argument between Jalil and his family. In frustration, Jalil reportedly tried to break windows and doors, which provoked the children into retaliating violently.

Speaking about the incident, Abdul Jalil said, “That day, my children beat me up in the yard. They tied my hands and feet and beat me all over. I still have bruises. One son told the other to keep hitting me. My wife told them to ask me where I kept my cash and to take it.
